Location and Time

July 22nd thru July 26th AOH 98th Biennial PA State Convention” Doubletree by Hilton Hote, Valley Forge PA Larry Daly
August 1, 2015

The Pittsburgh 1916 Easter Rising Committee, made up of representatives of the Irish community groups in our area, was formed to bring awareness to, and celebrate, the 100th anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising in Ireland. The first event will take place at 6:00pm on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church Courtyard, 17 th Street & Liberty Ave., in The Strip. Please mark your calendars!

A dramatic reenactment of the oration at the gravesite of “Jeremiah O'Donovan Rossa” by Padraig Pearse, which is widely believed to be the event that ultimately led to the Rising, will be presented.   A Wake will follow at Mullaney's Harp & Fiddle .  An excerpt from that oration you may be familiar with is....

“They think that they have foreseen everything, think that they have provided against everything; but the fools, the fools, the fools! — they have left us our Fenian dead, and while Ireland holds these graves, Ireland unfree shall never be at peace.”

This oration is the opening event for the committee's anticipated three day event which will take place on April 15, 16, & 17, 2016 to commemorate the 100 th Anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising, which lead to the formation of the Irish Republic.
