Mission Statement

To promote the education, both spiritual and intellectual, of the membership and the community through the media of lectures, instruction classes, guided study, arts and crafts groups, music, and drama, together with social and athletic endeavors appropriately supplementary of the afore stated educational programs, especially within the areas of the culture of the Gaelic people.

Irish language classes, Tin Whistle lessons, and Ceoltas Ceolteoiri Sessiuns take place weekly in the Bar.

The Pittsburgh Feis (Irish Dancing Competition) was established at the Centre in 1972. The 38th Pittsburgh Feis will take place at the Hyatt Hotel at the Pittsburgh International Airport on October 1/2 2011 as a 2-Day feis.

The West Virginia Feis was established in 2004 by Jim Graven. The 8th West Virginia feis-March 26/27, 2011 at the Hyatt.

The Pittsburgh Winter Feis was established by Jim Graven in 2006 at the Radisson in Greentree. The 6th Annual Winter Feis will take place at the Hyatt on the weekend of Dec 31,2011/Jan1,2012 . The 3 feiseanna are chaired by Jim Graven and assisted by many volunteers from the local dance schools of Bell, Burke/Conroy, and Shovlin.

In addition, Jim and his volunteers manage the Annual Celtic Fling Feis on the grounds of the Mt. Hope Estates (Parenaissancefaire.com) in Harrisburg, PA.



History of the Irish Centre

The Irish Centre was founded in the early 1960s and the present building was dedicated in 1969. It is located on a 4.5 acre plot at 6886 Forward Avenue, 15217. It contains a Large Banquet Hall, and an outdoor pool. It is managed by a 15 member Board . Jim Graven has been the president since 2000 and hails from Achill Island In County Mayo, in the extreme West of Ireland.

From North or South of Pittsburgh

Take the Parkway East to The Squirrel Hill Exit

Turn off onto the ramp.

Follow the Squirrel Hill signs turning to the left.

At the traffic light, bear right (East) onto Forward Ave.

Continue straight on Forward past the High School for a couple miles.

The Irish Center is on your right near the bottom of the hill.
